The new research indicates that the speed at which today's artificial intelligence can crack passwords is astonishing

A cybersecurity company called Home Security Heroes has published a research study on artificial intelligence and password cracking. Specifically, the researchers studied a new type of AI password cracking tool called PassGAN (Password Generative Adversarial Network). In this study, the researchers used PassGAN to run through a list of over 15 million passwords. The results showed that 51% of commonly used passwords could be cracked within one minute, 65% within one hour, 71% within one day, and 81% within one month.

Additionally, the team presented the experimental results in a table format, revealing that almost every password containing six or fewer characters could be cracked instantly. According to the organization, passwords with more than 18 characters are considered secure against tools like PassGAN. According to the table, it would take at least 10 months for the tool to compute a password with only digits and 18 characters.
