Hong Kong Youth Space Innovation Competition: Inspiring Tomorrow's Space Dreams

Hong Kong Youth Aerospace Innovation Competition It is a national competition designed specifically for primary and secondary school students in Hong Kong. It aims to promote aerospace technology knowledge, enhance students' literacy in aerospace technology, and cultivate their interest in the aerospace industry. The competition is organized by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association, supported by the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the Hong Kong Aerospace Science and Technology Group and other institutions, and is one of the series of activities to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.

Background

The first Hong Kong Youth Space Innovation Competition will be held from February to June 2022 and is aimed at full-time primary and secondary school students in Hong Kong. The competition consists of preliminary and final rounds, with the final round being held in a physical format. Outstanding contestants will have the opportunity to be recommended to participate in national competitions such as the "National Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition" and the "Song Qingling Children's Invention Award".

In 2024, the National Youth Space Innovation Competition added a Macau (Hengqin) regional qualifying competition. The regional selection competition is hosted by the China Aerospace Science and Technology International Exchange Center and the Macau International Youth Innovation and Creativity Association, and sponsored by the Education and Youth Development Bureau. 

Competition Content

The competition covers multiple aspects and aims to cultivate students' aerospace science and technology knowledge and skills in different fields. The competition includes:

  • Space Creativity: Focuses on aerospace-related creativity, aiming to stimulate contestants' interest in aerospace, learn aerospace science principles, and give full play to their imagination to complete and showcase creative solutions to aerospace-related problems.

  • Aerospace science research and innovative design: Focuses on aerospace-related exploration and design activities, aiming to examine the contestants' ability to conduct aerospace scientific exploration, product design or engineering practice, and to evaluate their ability to define problems, analyze needs, propose innovative designs or solve problems and verify them.

  • Space exploration competition: It focuses on executing space exploration activities and tasks, and aims to examine the contestants' abilities in hands-on practice, programming, robot control, and application of artificial intelligence technology.

  • Lunar Exploration Innovation Competition:Examine students' understanding of lunar exploration and manned space technology and their creative design capabilities.

  • Mars Home Theme Competition: Encourage students to conceive and design a living environment on Mars and explore the possibility of space migration.

  • Beidou Creative Beautiful Life: Guide students to understand the application of Beidou satellite navigation system and use their creativity to design related application scenarios.

  • Future Space Engineering Challenge: Develop students' teamwork and engineering skills to solve engineering challenges in space exploration.

The competition consists of preliminary and final rounds. Outstanding contestants will have the opportunity to be recommended to participate in national competitions to exchange and compete with mainland students.

The competition encourages students to unleash their creativity, enhance their aerospace technology literacy, and cultivate their interest in the aerospace industry, hoping to contribute to the development of the aerospace industry in Hong Kong and the country.

How to prepare for a race

To participate in the Hong Kong Youth Aerospace Innovation Competition, students need to be fully prepared and improve their aerospace technology knowledge and skills. Here are some preparation tips:

  • Learn aerospace technology knowledge: Students can learn about the development history, basic principles and latest progress of aerospace technology by reading relevant books, watching documentaries and attending lectures.

  • Participate in a mock competition: Students can participate in some simulated competitions, such as using the Super AI kit for robot design and programming, to familiarize themselves with the rules and procedures of the competition in advance and improve their confidence in the competition.

  • Seek professional guidance: Students can seek guidance from professional organizations, such as participating in Vinci AI’s Super AI Challenge competition course to learn robot assembly, programming, and competition strategies to improve their competitiveness in the competition.
